LD Lines have this week announced that they will soon be operating a ferry service between Dover and Boulogne. The service will start on 1st July 2009, with 4 return sailings per day that will take 1 hour and 45 minutes.

LD Lines currently run ferries to Le Havre from Portsmouth, Newhaven and Rosslare, and between Newhaven and Dieppe with their sister company, Transmanche Ferries. The new route from Dover to Boulogne will provide competition for Speedferries, who currently run this route.

The route will be operated by the Norman Spirit, the vessel which currently operates on the Portsmouth to Le Havre route.

What do you think of the new route planned by LD Lines? Do you have any travel stories about LD Lines or Speedferries to share? As usual, we would love to hear them!
