Wight Light on the move!

Wight Link will soon have a new ship to add to their fleet. The Wight Light will service the Lymington - Yarmouth route, and is one of 3 ships to replace the existing C-Class vessels that service the route. During her lifetime, the Wight Light is expected to undertake more than 200,000 trips, covering over 750,000 nautical miles.
The Wight Light set sail last week from Croatia, where she was built, following 2 days of extensive sea trials and will now undertake the 3 week journey home, stopping en route in Palermo, Gibraltar and Vigo before arriving in Solent waters by early September.
The Wight Light will then undergo more testing and crew operational training and will enter service in autumn 2008, joining her sisters, the Wight Sky and the Wight Sun; the last of which will enter into service in early 2009.
The Wight Light is part of the current Wight Link effort to overhaul their fleet and upgrade their routes; in addition to the 3 new ships for the Lymington - Yarmouth route, new catamarans for the Portsmouth- Ryde route have been ordered, to be introduced in summer 2009.
