Self drive ski holidays to the French Alps (Part 1)

Planning your ski holidays soon? Why not go for a self drive ski holiday in the continent and inject some more adventure into your holiday.
Self drive ski holidays are not only fun but also a great alternative to flying with loads of heavy ski gear and equipment. Not only you don’t have to endure the stress of going through the airports but you can also explore the continent by road and of course do things your way.
There are regular ferry services available to go across the Channel to France. Brittany Ferries offer crossings from Portsmouth to Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo, from Poole to Cherbourg and from Plymouth to Roscoff. There is a choice of day or overnight sailings but overnight crossings would be ideal for a drive up to the Alps as you can have a good rest in the cabin overnight.
LD Lines also offer crossings from Portsmouth and Newhaven to LeHavre and Transmanche Ferries operate crossings from Newhaven to Dieppe.
On the other hand if you prefer short sea crossings there are plenty of alternatives. P&O ferries and Seafrance offer very frequent crossings (almost every hour) from Dover to Calais and Norfolkline Ferries offer frequent crossings from Dover to Dunkerque. Not only these crossings are only about 90 minutes on an average but they are also cheap, with prices starting from around £70.00 return for a car and 4 people.
Oh! Just forgot to mention another pro of taking a ferry, there is no restriction on the weight as opposed to the airlines, it only depends on how big the boot of your car is.
Driving through to the south east of France to reach some of the charming ski resorts like the Three valleys, Paradiski, Chamonix Mont Blanc and Espace Killy along the beautiful country side and sometimes mountainous terrain is absolutely breath taking and believe me this will be the most satisfying ski holiday.
