Norfolkline announces the revival of Rosyth – Zeebrugge route
After a long deliberation, Norfolkline, a Dutch Ferry company has agreed to take over the ailing Rosyth – Zeebrugge route and give it a new lease of life. Rosyth – Zeebrugge route has always been an important link between Scotland and the Continent.
Scottish tourism has been steadily increasing owing to this route and the announcement of closing down this vital route has caused a lot of distress among people and businesses on both sides. Previously this route was operated by a Greek operator Superfast Ferries. Superfast have accounted the rising fuel costs and depleting passenger numbers as the reasons for pulling out of this route.
However, Norfolkline have announced the revival of the Rosyth-Zeebrugge route from spring 2009 with up to 3 departures per week. There will be both passenger and freight crossings.
Norfolkline’s Ferry division managing director Kell Robdrup stated “We understand the importance of this service to both passengers and freight customers in Scotland and the Continent. With the introduction of a brand new ferry, Norfolkline can provide a comfortable and environmentally friendly crossing. I believe the close cooperation with all parties will make this service a success.”
The Rosyth-Zeebrugge route will be serviced by the new ship under construction in the Visentini Shipyard in Italy. This is a modern vessel with lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
